RZ/V2L, RZ/G2L, and RZ/G2UL: A comparison of Renesas' RZ microprocessors | Solid-Run

Renesas' RZ family of microprocessors is a popular choice for a wide range of applications, from industrial automation to consumer electronics. The RZ/V2L, RZ/G2L, and RZ/G2UL are three of the most popular RZ microprocessors, and they offer a variety of features and benefits to meet the needs of different applications.

RZ/V2L

The RZ/V2L is a general-purpose microprocessor that is equipped with Renesas' original AI accelerator, DRP-AI. DRP-AI is configured with DRP and AI-MAC, and it offers excellent power efficiency, eliminating the need for heat dissipation measures such as heat sinks or cooling fans. This makes the RZ/V2L ideal for applications where AI is needed but power consumption is a concern.

The RZ/V2L also features a 16-bit DDR3L/DDR4 interface and a built-in 3D graphics engine with Arm Mali-G31 and video codec (H.264). This makes it a good choice for applications that require high-performance graphics or video processing, such as industrial HMIs and embedded devices with video capabilities.

RZ/G2L

The RZ/G2L is a general-purpose microprocessor with dual-core Arm® Cortex®-A55 CPUs and a single-core Arm® Cortex®-M33 CPU. It also features a 16-bit DDR3L/DDR4 interface, 3D graphics engine with Arm Mali-G31 and video codec (H.264). The RZ/G2L is package-compatible and pin-compatible with the RZ/V2L, making it a good choice for applications that need the AI capabilities of the RZ/V2L but also need more CPU power.
